About Dr. Leonoff

Dr. Leonoff is a native of Long Island.  He was raised in Roslyn.  He graduated from Muhlenberg College in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Biology.

From 1990 to 1994, Dr. Leonoff attended Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine where he received his DDS degree.  He received numerous awards including the Crest Award for Excellence in Preventive Dentistry for the Elderly and the American Academy of Periodontology Student Award for Excellence in Periodontics.

Upon graduation from dental school, he stayed at Stony Brook to get his periodontal training in the Advanced Education in Periodontics Program.  The three year program ended in 1997 and he began his private practice specializing in periodontics.

During his residency in periodontics, Dr. Leonoff also participated in helping the investigation of the crash of TWA Flight 800 in 1996.  For his efforts, he received certificates of  thanks from then County Executive, Robert Gaffney, and from the School of Dental Medicine at Stony Brook.

Dr. Leonoff is trained and licensed to perform LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure)  for the treatment of periodontitis.  This course was given by world famous periodontist Dr. Ray Yukna and the staff of Millenium Dental Technologies, including Dr. Robert Gregg and Dr. Dawn Gregg.  The training was performed at the University of Colorado School of Dentistry in Denver, CO and in Cerritos, CA.  Dr. Leonoff was the second periodontist on all of Long Island that was trained and licensed to perform LANAP.

Dr. Leonoff is also trained in the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique.  This specialized surgery allows for the repair of gum recession without grafting tissue from the roof of the mouth. This makes the procedure much more comfortable. It also allows an entire arch to be completed at one sitting.

Currently Dr. Leonoff is a member of various institutions including the American Dental Association, the Dental Society of the State of New York, the Suffolk County Dental Society and the New York State PBA Police Surgeons Group.

Dr. Leonoff is married and has two children.  He is a very active car enthusiast and is past President and past Concours Chairman of the Metro NY Region of the Porsche Club of America.  He and his wife, Julie were also Editors for the Porsche Post Magazine.
